Each buti is a separate needle-lifted motif, which means the reverse of this saree carries loose thread ends rather than a clean float — that is the mark of the hand version. The sheerness comes from an unbleached warp the weavers refuse to degum, so the cloth holds a slight body instead of collapsing.
